Ballantyne has had solo and mixed exhibitions throughout Scotland, as well as in London, Bath, and Eton. She works in oils and mixed media and enjoys painting still lifes and landscapes in the Scottish Colourist tradition.

Ballantyne's work has been featured in various publications and has been chosen for the National Trust for Scotland's Christmas cards.
